Here, the music comes last. 5 minute set-up, no sound check, 15 minute set. The “music” element is all a front, it’s the first thing to be compromised. Corporate money everywhere but in the hands of the artists, at what is really just a glorified corporate networking party. Drunk corporate goons and other industry vampires and cocaine. Everyone is drunk, being cool. “Official” bureaucracy and all their mindless rules. Branding, branding, branding. It’s bullshit… sorry.

Launching a night this Friday in the George Tavern in Whitechapel, London. The premise is simple, pop music (and disco and house and whatever takes our fancy), £2 dancing tax, open til 3am.

It’s in a beautiful pub and I’ll be joined by Dave who does the awesome Below & Beyond radio show and excellent south London producer Octochamp.

This evening I’ll be tucked into the corner of Catch bar in Shoreditch London playing sexy songs, y’know, R’n’B, smooth hip-hop, bitta funk, some old soul sounds. Music to make the youngsters wanna go home with each other.

Must mention the Death by Burrito guys too, they sent me out some food while I was playing on Friday and it was delish, cannot recommend their culinary skills enough.

Also on Friday I was served up a bucket of interesting local and international beers, they were all tasty, so I drank them all, which lead to playing Enya and M/A/R/R/S back to back (see yesterdays post).

Good food, good beer, good music. Treat yourself, it’s Tuesday.

Two covers of hip-hop classics that Gilles Peterson has been playing on his 6 Music show in recent weeks (Rob Da Bank’s been playing him too). Very nice.

Course if you’re unfamiliar with the originals get on these now, essential classics.

And a new one for me is the Philippians remix of Runnin’ which doesn’t differ a huge amount from the original, just dicks around with some blips and fattens up the beats, but it’s worth a listen.
